Wine tasting in Rheinhessen

on

This weekend I met a good friend in the wine region “Rheinhessen” where we spent a couple of days catching up and tasting the most German wines. We stayed in a small village called Flörsheim- Dalsheim.

As the weather was nice and sunny we decided to hike through the vineyards all day Saturday. The leaves had already started turning a dark burgundy red and it was a beautiful mild fall day. The last of the grapes were still hanging on the vines absorbing every bit of sun left in the season.

After we had exhausted ourselves hiking we decided to make an appointment for wine tasting. So we followed our map to the vinery “Axel Müller”. My friend already knew their wines from a fair and wanted to stock up her cellar with a few fine bottles. Birgit Müller was a very welcoming host and we spent a delightful evening tasting their excellent wines.

A wine I especially enjoyed was their Cuvée X-clusive, a “composition of selected, high quality red wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Dornfelder”. Of course we bought a few bottles!

To conclude the weekend we drove to the neighboring village of Monsheim to the “Lebenslust & KunstGenuss”– festival on Sunday before heading back home.

It is a pity that those weekends seem to rush by so quickly. But a glass of the cuvée on a rainy evening at home brings back the memories of sun and laughter of this perfect weekend!
