Darwin & heading to Cairns

on

The sky was cloudy and there was a breeze going when we got up. But it was still warm enough to go to the pool. So we packed up and checked out of the hotel leaving our luaggage behind.

Today we were lucky and found a really nice sun protection shirt and a pair of swim shorts for B. With those she jumped right into the Darwin ocean pool and almost refused to leave the water ever again.

Meanwhile we watched the Olympics on a big screen at the waterfront park.

And then it was almost time to head for the airport. We grabbed a quick bite on the way back to the hotel where we ate and quickly dried our swimming gear in the dryer. Then we took a taxi to the airport. However,  this time I was the one who did not take care of her stuff. I left my phone at the hotel at the socket to charge. So I had to take another round trip with the taxi to go and get it. Stupid of me!

After all this excitement I then slept all through the flight. A blessing for someone who doesn’t like flying.

We arrived at our hotel in Cairns around midnight.

Funny thing we saw at the airport: a vending machine for… flip flops  (or “thongs” as they call them in Australia). That’s when you know you truly are in the Land of Oz!
