Driving to Rockhampton

Getting up this morning we were really glad we had stoked the fire the night before as it was foggy and cold. So we dressed quickly and went to the restaurant for breakfast. Turned out we were the last ones- at half nine! Everyone else must have already gone for a hike. Halfway through our coffee the restaurant manager asked us whether we likes snakes. A bit hesitant we said “yes”. So we learned that he had a python. Proudly he presented his pet to us and we even got to touch it. He had raised it ever since it was a baby right out of the egg. Once it would be grown to full size he planned on releasing it into the rainforest where they lived in the wild.

Driving down the mountain was an adventure. It was so foggy the we could not see much of the road ahead. But as soon as we were below the cloud cover all was fine and gradually the sun came out.

Slowly we made our way back to highway 1 (Bruce Highway). In Pioneer Valley we came across this board:

Now that’s black humor…

Back at the coast we stopped for a quick toilet break at a resting place near this nice beach. If there hadn’t been signs warning of a recent shark sighting we could have been tempted to go for a quick swim as well.

Instead we continued on our journey to Rockhampton.

About an hour before we reached our destination for tonight we stopped at a pub along the road for lunch.

Healthy living, right?!

To stretch the legs a bit at least we took a stroll around Rockhampton. We did not have much time but got a glimpse of its old glory:
