Flying back home

on

On our last day in Australia we woke up to this view over the city of Brisbane:

Unfortunately we did not have much time anymore. After breakfast we drove directly to the airport, returned the rental car and checked in. Flying out of Brisbane I managed to take a photo of the river from above when the plane tilted to the right.

Nine hours and several movies later we landed in Hongkong.

When booking our flights to Australia we used miles for the first part of the journey and paid for the second part. We therefore had to book the tickets separately. Despite the sepeate bookings we were able to check our luaggage all the way through to our final destination going to Australia. On our way back we were affected by a change in regulations taking place while we were vacationing. The first airline (in this case Quantas) was not allowed to check our suitcases through to Europe. This meant that we had to retrieve them in Hongkong,  go through immigration and customs to then check in with Lufthansa for the last leg of the trip. As we did not have visas for Hongkong we were worried about getting stuck. But fortunately all went smooth and we could continue without any glitches.

Arriving around 5.30 am we were met by dear friends at the airport. What a surprise! They even had done some grocery shopping for us for breakfast. So without further delay we made our way home to enjoy breakfast with them.

At home the next wonderful surprise was waiting for us: Another dear friend had decorated our front steps and door with sunflowers to welcome us home!

Guys, we love you! We are so lucky to have friends like you!
