Skiing Brauneck, Lengries

on

This morning we sent our kids off to school and went skiing (yes, I know…)

While the weather remained gray at home all day we were able to enjoy the most beautiful sunshine and excellent skiing conditions.

Located at about an hours drive South of Munich Brauneck is ideal for a skiing or hiking day trip. Certainly now that going to Austria (which would require the same driving times) is more difficult due to the reinstated border controls.

To get up on the mountain we took the cable way from Lengries (Brauneck-Kabinenbahn) to the Panorama restaurant. From here you access the Garland skiing resort. We had choosen a Tuesday for our skiing trip and Bavarian kids had school that day. Therefore the slopes were almost empty.

Brauneck is known for its small traditional huts, our favorite being the “Stie- Alm” (http://www.stie-alm.de) at the outmost corner of the skiing resort. It’s a bit tricky to get back into the main skiing arena from Stie- Alm but the delicious food, the friendly staff and last but not least the beautiful terrasse overlooking the Wendelstein and Karwendel are worth a little walking on skies.

Aren’t those views just magical?!?

All in all, it was a very enjoyable day in the  Bavarian Alps.
