Quite exhausted from all the shopping we did in North and South Carolina we boarded a plane to Newark for a few days of city sightseeing.
Our hotel was located right in the center of midtown Manhattan on East 48th street. Which made walking to a lot of sights a breeze. Nonetheless we bought all- day subway tickets to be able to just hop on a bus or metro when we needed to. And even the Staten Island ferry ( http://www.siferry.com/schedules.html ) and the Roosevelt Island tramway (http://rioc.ny.gov/302/Tram) are free with these tickets! They sell 7 day and 30 day tickets. So even though we stayed for 5 days we had to get a ticket for a week. But the price of 32$ per person was okay compared to metro tickets back home. You can also get “pay- as- you go”- cards if you don’t use public transportation too much.
