The last university we visited was Utrecht.

It is the biggest university in the Netherlands and one of it’s oldest.

Utrecht is very bicycle friendly whereas the use of cars is widely discouraged and parking is incredibly expensive. An estimated 125.000 cyclists move around the city every day. Downtown bicycle parking offers space for 12.500 bikes- the city claims that this garage is the largest in the world.

Utrecht city center is characterized by the Oudegracht and the Nieuwegracht with numerous restaurants right by the water. It’s a vibrant part of the city with cafés and restaurants and a variety of shops.

The one picture that is probably blogged the most about Utrecht is the cycling lane around Utrecht Hogeschool. You can even cycle around it virtually on Youtube. As this month is pride month I’ll join in and share a photo of it with you- so here you go:
