Schliersee’s delicious whisky

on

The whole idea for this trip originated from a birthday present that had to be postponed because of the Corona lockdown. We had invited friends to a tour around the Slyrs distillery, the largest producer of single malt whisky in Germany.

Spitzingsee

As we were unable to book accommodation at the Schliersee, we decided to stay at the Spitzingsee instead.

From Spitzingsee you can hike downhill to Schliersee in about two hours. Just make sure you are wearing adequate shoes. The path is rocky and it was slippery from the rain the day before.

Alternatively there is an excellent bus connection between the two lakes.

On the hike you can hear water in the distance as you descend to the village of Neuhaus. It takes a while until the Josefthaler waterfalls come into view. A bit further down there is also a shallow area where kids can play in the water.

Once you arrive at Neuhaus you walk past typical Bavarian houses until you reach the Slyrs distillery in Bayrischzeller Strasse.

Whisky tasting

You can either tour the distillery by yourself or join their guided tours. At the end of the tour you get to taste their Bavarian whisky and their liquor. The liquor is too sweet for my taste, I am more of a whisky lover and the Slyrs Bavarian Malt is very smooth.

After the tour we had a Bavarian “Brotzeit” in the Slyrs eatery.

If you are in the area stop by the distillery, it’s a very pleasant visit (I’m not sponsored to say this by the way). We booked in advance which was a good thing as there were several groups celebrating birthdays and hen/ stag nights.
