Cervantes to Kalbarri

We started from Cervantes after a good nights sleep. First stop was Jurien Bay for morning coffee with a gorgeous view of the turquoise ocean.

We followed State Route 60 to the turn off to Green Head traveling on red dirt roads to the lookout. On this mere twenty minute drive from Jurien Bay to Green Head the landscape changed completely and the ocean turned from turquoise green to a dark blue.

We kept driving along the coast line until we reached the Hutt lagoon which shines in a bright pink color. The lake has an extremely high level of salinity. It is home to microalgae that produce beta- carotene, a food coloring agent giving the lake its unusual hue. What looks completely unnatural is not unsafe and you can swim in the lake if you want to.

Heading further North towards Kalbarri we stopped at several look out points to view the Coastal Cliffs. Again the scenery completely changed and we drove through flowering bush land to the coast line.

Last stop for the day was Eagle Gorge were we watched the sun go down over the ocean. From above we spotted a pod of dolphins playing in the water.
