Today we did not have much activities planned other than visiting various spots in and around Broome. So we started the day slowly with an outdoor shower, without our little frog friends who disappeared during the night. But, again we had a visitor at our bungalow- this little fellow snug by us while we were eating breakfast.
And off we went to stop at the visitor center in Broome which has a very broad selection of information about Broome and West Australia. Next was China Town where we visited a “general store” to buy some flip flops (and they have lots of other stuff of course). After walking around town a bit we had coffee at Short Street Cafe – highly recommended.
The jetty down Short Street wasn’t that impressive so we continued on to visit Roebuck Lookout. The roof of the Roebuck Lookout has been designed by Highschool students and throws a nice shadow on the ground. Just don’t visit it when there is a lot of lightning happening as the roof is made of steel and they warn you to seek shelter elsewhere during a thunderstorm.
Next was Gantheaume Point, place of protection and healing and rebirth for Yawuru people. A display states that this place to them is as sacred as Jerusalem and Mecca to other religions. They believe that when they die, they come back here to be reborn.
There is a large Osprey nest in the lighthouse tower at Gantheaume Point. We watched them for a while. The parents were busy collecting food while the young squealed to get their attention. Just as we were leaving a couple of whales were jumping out of the water in the ocean.
Leaving for Cable beach hubby decided to take a detour so he could put our car into action again on a sandy beach road – we made it through without getting stuck in the sand and he was really enjoying the ride.
About 2 hours before sunset we made it to cable beach. We bought some drinks and sat down on a bench waiting for sunset to come watching boats come by. It‘s a beautiful spot to just sit and watch.
