Kimberleys: Bells and Galvans Gorge

on

We spent our night under a sky full of bright stars and I am surprised I slept so well in my swag. As we had a lot of plans for the day we had to wake up at 5 o’clock and pack up our belongings. It was still dark when we got up. When we got out of our tent we heard some buzzing. Turned out we had a wild bee hive right above us and apparently the bees felt attacked by our head lights.

Well, it is nature after all. And at least they are not poisonous as the cane toad guarding our tent last night was. The tour guide we asked about the toad just kicked it and it jumped off. Once brought in to help fight insects in sugar cane these toads apparently now have found their niche and have become a pest in Australia.

Our first stop for today was Bells Gorge, a mere half an hours drive from camp. It is a gorgeous place to have a swim.

Roads are bumpy around here making for a shaky ride. Good thing our tour guides only drive for about two hours before stopping again. This time we stopped at Galvans Gorge for sandwich lunch. Afterwards we strolled to the Galvin Gorge waterfall for another swim.

Place for the night was Mount Barnett Station.
