We caught a red eye flight out of Perth which had us in Singapore very early in the morning. This gave us the opportunity to leave the airport and stroll around Singapore.

We had considered doing one of the free bus tours that are being offered at the airport but decided to go exploring by ourselves. So we deposited our hand luggage at a baggage storage in Terminal 2 and off we went.

But first we walked over to „The Jewel“ at Changi Airport. It is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, the Rain Vortex, and it is surrounded by a terraced forest. Even though the water wasn’t flowing the structure is quite impressive.

Singapore‘s train system, the MRT, is fairly easy to navigate. Even the ticketing system is comprehensive. You simply swipe a credit card at the station‘s entrance and then swipe the same card again as you leave at your destination. The correct fare is deducted from your card automatically.

We took took the MRT to „Promenade“ and walked from there across the Helix bridge to the „Gardens at the Bay“. The weather in Singapore is hot and humid all year round and we were soon drenched in sweat. However, this did not stop us.

After iced coffee to revive our spirits we took the MRT to Chinatown.

As eventually we started getting tired and exhausted we decided the next stop would be our last- we walked to the Budda Tooth Relic Temple.

The train ride back to the airport was almost one hour and we reached Changi Airport tired but happy. One of the perks of having a hubby who travels a lot for work is the his frequent travelers status. This allows us lounge access on these trips. So we went to the Singapore business class lounge for a shower and some food and drink before catching the overnight plane back home.
