Jervis Bay

on

Jervis Bay has spectacular beaches and crystal clear waters. So we decided to spend the day beach hopping. Our first visit in the morning was to Hyams Beach where we were greeted by a group of dolphins that swam right by us.

With such a great start in the morning we drove to Booderee National Park to see more of the stunning area.

A beach we did not have on our trip plan but that was mentioned by every single Aussie we talked to was Green Patch. So we decided to give it a try- we were not disappointed.

Green Patch

The first thing you notice about the beach is the stream of muddy brown water that flows alongside the beach. It does not look inviting but don‘t be mistaken. The water stream has tea tree tannin run off, which is medicinal and has excellent anti- bacterial and anti- fungal properties for anyone with feet issues.

Hole in the Wall, Booderee NP

Third stop on our beach exploration was the Hole in the Wall. The name is derived from a rock formation at the end of the beach that form a passageway to the next cove. It makes for a beautiful picture backdrop. Luckily we visited the Hole in the Wall in off- season. I can imagine lots of Instagrammers queuing to get the perfect shot.

Murrays Beach with Bowen Island in the background

Murrays Beach is just as beautiful as the other beaches we saw today. I would not be able to pick my favorite one. But- coming back to my post on Manly- all of the Jervis Bay beaches are more beautiful than the city beach of Manly.

Murrays beach overlooks Bowen Island where the local little penguin colony lives and breeds. The island is therefore off limits to the public and you are not allowed closer than 30 meters to the island‘s shore.

We had lunch sitting on the rocks at the end of Murray beach and again saw a group of dolphins swim past. This time I even managed to get a photo.

Dolphins

The beach we had to work for the hardest was definitely Steamers Beach. From the car park it is a 2,3km one way hike. The most challenging part comes at the end: 260 steps and a steep decline in between lead you down to this beach.

If you are fit enough to do it absolutely go for it- the beach is worth it!
