Valemount

We left Alberta and drove into British Columbia. Doing so we crossed the time zone and gained another hour.

Road sign from BC to Alberta

We followed Highway 16, the Trans- Canada- Highway, until we reached Highway 5 going South. First stop was the Mount Robson Visitor Centre in order to get some information about the area and the hikes we could do.

Entry to Mount Robson Park

It had started to rain again and we decided to enjoy the breakfast that the Black Cat Ranch was kind enough to pack for us so we could leave early again.

Behind the Visitor Centre you have a splendid view of the mountains even though we were not able to see the peak of Mount Robson, with an altitude of 3.954 meters the highest mountain in the Canadian Rocky Mountain range.

Mount Robson

From the Visitor Centre we drove to Reargard Falls, a waterfall in the Fraser River. We were about to leave it‘s tumbling waters when we saw someone signaling a raft coming downstream. Curious as how they would handle the waterfall we stayed to watch.

Rearguard Falls

It was quite a spectacle to watch them come ashore, carry the raft up the hill and then- via a wooden ramp- put the raft in the water again.

Overlander Falls

Another beautiful waterfall on Fraser River are the Overlander Falls. Just a short hike down from the highway you can watch the water tumble down at high speeds.

The hike we had planned for that day was to Kinney Lake. The trail starts above the Mount Robson Visitor Centre. As it is a ten kilometer return hike we were afraid that the ever changing weather would not allow us to do the trail. But once the weather cleared up we gave it a try. And we were so glad we did. It did drizzle a bit in between but for the largest part of the hike we stayed dry.

Kinney Lake

The trail follows the Robson River for the largest part until it opens up to Kinney Lake. It is an easy hike on wide hard- packed paths. The lake itself is breathtaking with it‘s blue waters with high mountain peaks in the background. We really enjoyed this trail.

Bear spray- our latest hiking accessory

We continued on to Valemount were we were booked into a log cabin for the next two nights. Just as we had carried in all our belongings it started to rain real hard. We were lucky once again!
