Hawaii

on
Muddy trail

Hawaii? You thought we were in Canada and now I am writing a post titled „Hawaii“? You are not mistaken. We are in Canada indeed, to be precise in Valemount in East Central British Columbia between the Rocky, Monashee, and Cariboo Mountains.

About half an hour outside of the town of Valemount there is a hike called the „Hawaii Trail“ (as the visitor information calls it) or „Aloha Trail“ (according to Google). With the weather still being a bit unstable what could be better than getting some Aloha feeling. So we decided to do this trail. The route ascends through a slide area, meandering through thickets of slide alder before emerging onto a rocky lookout with views of glacier- fed waterfalls and overlooking Kinbasket Lake.

Waterfalls

The rain of the past few days had made the ascend quite slippery and challenging but the views made up for all the mud and the occasional downpour that made us pause under tree canopies to avoid the worst of the rain.

Kinbasket Lake

At the lookout the person(s) maintaining the trail had installed tins with pencils and paper under a bench so that hikers could leave messages. What a nice idea!

Lookout

Even though we got dirty and wet this hike was incredible and certainly one of the most memorable of this trip.

Twin Peaks Resort- our log cabin with a view

We spent the evening enjoying the view from our traditional log cabin at the „Twin Peaks Resort“.
