We enjoyed a very lazy morning sleeping in and waking up to this wonderful view from our AirBnB window.
Having a late breakfast and a good cup of coffee we enjoyed this wonderful part of the country. What a lovely place to live!
To get going a bit we drove down the road to Smuggler Cove, a hike that our host had recommended to us. It was in this cove that Chinese laborers who were laid off after the completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1885 were picked up to be smuggled to the United States hoping to find new work. During the Prohibition (1920 to 1933) it was a safe haven to rum- runners. Today it is a place to anchor your boat to have a lazy afternoon or spend the night.
From the parking lot you walk through a swamp, passing by beaver dams and wonderful coastal rainforest.
We sat on the rocks for a long time just watching ships come and go. With the binoculars hubby had found on our journey we even spotted an osprey trying to stake out a raven‘s nest. The raven flew around the osprey’s head long enough to make him chase after him in order to lead him away from their nest.
To stay with the lazy theme of the day we had a late lunch at a restaurant overlooking the wharf where Harbour Air Seaplanes was shutteling passengers in and out of the area.
We ended the day as we had started it- by sitting at the stairwell of our AirBnB leading to the Howe Sound. This truly is a piece of paradise!
